Valentines Weekend Caricatures

I draw caricatures at the Grove Park Inn Hotel & Spa. Yesterday I drew a few couples who were celebrating Valentines.

Watercolor Art Show

From February 6th to the 28th I will be showing my watercolor paintings at the First Congregational United Church of Christ Art Gallery. Their address is 20 Oak Street Asheville 28801. I will be at the official opening on February 6th after the Sunday service around 11:30AM.

Butterflies and a motorcycle

This is a commissioned caricature I finished at the end of the year. A couple were riding their motorcycles on the Blue Ridge Parkway. She rode through a swarm of butterflies and one got inside her helmet. The client wanted the rendering to illustrate the event. The size is 11' by 14" and was painted in watercolors.

2010 Las Vegas ISCA Convention

While at the International Society of Caricature Artists convention in Las Vegas I filmed the artists and their artwork. This video is 40 minutes I reduced down to this 15 minute film. Click twice onto the video to watch it full size at Youtube.

November Caricatures

November and December is the time of year I draw at holiday parties and events. Here are a few recent live caricatures.

2010 Caricature Convention in Las Vegas

For the past five years I have been attending the International Society of Caricature Artist's annual convention. This year it was held in Las Vegas. Previous conventions have been in Orlando, Reno, Raleigh and Sandusky. I had a great time attending workshops and drawing other caricature artists. The guest of honor was Bill Plympton famous for his hand drawn animations.

Caricature Cheer

Been busy drawing at events and working on commissions. Below is a cheerleading theme caricature. Next week I am off to the International Society of Caricature Artists annual convention in Las Vegas. I will tell you all about it when I get back.

Downtown Asheville Sketch

I drew this Asheville street corner on the spot last weekend. The location is Pack Square. It shows the older BB&T high rise building in the background that was built in the '60s. Many residents find the structure ugly. The corner shows the brick lined sidewalk. Restaurants occupy the brick building that is pre '60s. Drawn with markers and shaded with a black art stick.



Here is a photo of the corner. Altered the perspective and dimensions of the buildings, the angles of the street and placement of the light pole. Now that I look at the drawing it looks too unbalanced.


I painted a final watercolor making a few changes from the initial sketch.

ResMed Picnic in Greenville, NC

I was busy this past weekend drawing party caricatures for BB&T bank in Winston-Salem and for the ResMed company picnic in Greenville, South Carolina. Here are some of my quick caricatures.

Uptown Greenville's Freeboot Fridays

I was contacted by Uptown Greenville, NC to create these caricature portraits for some of their special volunteers. In 2001, Uptown Greenville started the Freeboot Friday live downtown music concerts. The pirate theme series has become very popular among locals and visitors drawing an average attendance fo 2,800. City of 1,000 Easels

On Sunday I was part of the Asheville Area Arts Council's City of 1,000 Easels event. Around 110 artists descended downtown Asheville to create art. I set up at Pritchard Park and drew my caricatures on the street.
