Kinetic Holiday Caricatures

Look what I made. Christmas caricature fold-outs! A reindeer, elf and Santa Clause is revealed in these kinetic caricatures. They were done for a local church. I can personalize your caricature into a kinetic caricature fold-out. Song snippet is Cinematic by Erin McKeown.

NCN member Stephen Silver

Here is a video I made of the work of Stephen Silver, a character designer who attended the NCN convention. He also conducted a hands on workshop called "Drawing From Life" where attendees drew from a model. The image below is a sketch before the workshop began.

NCN Caricature Movie

I had fun editing this mini caricature movie of the 17th annual National Caricature Network caricature convention held in North Carolina. I can guarantee you that attending a live caricature convention is ten times more fun than watching it in a film. Hope you can make one on the future. Go here to learn more about the NCN and see photos of past conventions. http://caricature.org/

Caricature tutorial by NCN member Sean Gardner

While at the caricature convention I filmed Sean Gardner drawing Deb Donnelly. Sean works at Bush Gardens in Florida and had been drawing caricatures for three years I believe. You can learn a lot by watching him work.

My caricature work at the 2008 NCN convention

Here are the drawings I did in Raleigh. I was number 133. I tried to experiment with my caricatures I drew. That is why there are a few different styles. I spent about half of my time there watching other artists create their caricatures. I am all ready looking forward to next year's convention in Ohio.

Caricature artists at work

I filmed this at the NCN convention this past week in Raleigh. In the ballroom 180 artists brings in their art supplies for the week. Artists are creating caricatures in airbrush, marker pens, painting, with digital computers, pencil, charcoal and in other mediums. On the walls each artist has their "gallery" of work. Everyone is having fun socializing and also diligently working.

    Happy Faces at Company Picnic

At large events I draw around 12 to 20 caricatures an hour.

This little guy was moving around the whole time I was drawing him!

This was an experiment of a more exaggerated head shape. I drew the outside shape first and filled in the features.

Drawing expressions and a person's "personality" is important when capturing one's likeness.
