    Repeat Customers

Had fun drawing at a local baseball park this past week. A couple sat down and said I had drawn them before. They mentioned the holiday party I first met them at. I remembered their faces. When I analyze and draw someone's face for 6 minutes you almost memorize it. I found the original caricature I did of them. It was a little less crazy.

    Another baseball park caricature.

    James Gurney

This week I attended a book signing and talk by illustrator James Gurney. The author is the creator of the bestselling Dinotopia series of dinosaur fantasy books. At Malaprops bookstore and Cafe he promoted the newest book in the series, Dinotopia:Journey to Chandara. The wonderfully researched and rendered illustrations look like they came from a 19th century National Geographic Magazine. He worked for the magazine from 1984-2005. ; ) His daily weblog is a must stop of all artists.

    Back from St. Louis

Great time in St. Louis. (See slideshow above) The weather was warm and windy arriving Sunday then it snowed the next day. Stopped by the Arch then to the City Museum where I met some other NCN caricaturists. The convention was held at the Drury Inns & Suites in Creve Coeur,MO. Tom Richmond was finishing a Mad Magazine parody. Joe Bluhm and Court Jones demonstrated their digital skills. The best part was watching the caricatures fill the walls.

My caricatures from the mini-convention are below. My display space was next to Chicago artist Angel Contreras who earned the top award voted by the attendees. I was impressed by his volume of work and expressive faces. I feel my drawing style is still evolving. Some of my work is made up of simple lines. I also like to be more rendered.
