Portrait Drawing Workshop

Last week I took a Portrait Drawing class taught by Angela Cunningham from The Grand Central Academy of Art. The workshop was held at The Fine Arts League of the Carolinas in Asheville, NC. I learned to slow down drawing from 10am to 5pm each day.

Summer Caricatures

Two live caricatures I did last night.

Caricature Gift for the Upwardly Mobile Boss

What do you do when your boss gets a promotion? Give her a caricature. This marketing director was leaving a position at the Brevard hospital to a Vice President position at our local airport. The 11" by 14" watercolor illustration was placed on a 16" by 20" board so her coworkers could sign around it. I included the preliminary sketch that got approved before the final was finished.

Zombie Caricature

This was a fun illustration project. His girlfriend contacted me to create a zombie caricature to celebrate his birthday. She wanted me to included his Fender guitar and having him chained to an amp. Zombies like to eat brains too. The size is 14" by 17". I drew the lines with a PITT artist brush pen and colored with watercolors.

Dragon Pizza Logo

Logo design for a pizza parlor business. I included my preliminary sketches to show you how this project evolved. Click the images to see them larger.


Quick sketches. I liked how the tail fit into the missing pizza slice.

I decided using a circle (the pizza) anchored the design.

More Summer Caricatures

Having a great time this summer keeping busy drawing live caricatures. Drew at Meggan and Sherman's wedding at Claxton Farm in Weaverville, drew dogs for the "Yappy Hour" at Highland Falls Country Club and returned to Antler Hill Village at the Biltmore Estate.
